This week we focused more on independent reading rather than having Mr. Schoenborn read to us. I feel like i am understanding the book more now that i am reading it and using the audio logs which help me understand what is going on a lot better. Huck is having bad feelings about the duke and the dauphin and tried to slip away from them and just have it be him and Jim and but manage to find their way to them again. I also like the audio logs because i know exactly how much time i will spend reading. At first i did not like Huck Finn but now that i am reading it myself and we are getting deeper in the book i am starting to like it a lot more than i used to. The duke and the dauphin are very smart frauds and manage to screw over multiple towns and almost get away with taking thousands of dollars from Peter Wilk's daughters, but were caught and yet somehow managed to get away.

I learned this week that i take in more information when i am read to and i read along then when i read by myself. I learned this while we were reading Huckleberry Finn. When i read to myself i don't take in all the information that i am reading, and i day dream and don't realize i am still reading. While reading Huckleberry Finn i am learning about how segregated Huck and Jim were to the town and about how the way of life was way back then. Jim and Huck were essentially isolated from the rest of the town, Jim being a slave, and Huck having one "parent" who wasn't nothing but danger to Huck. There is this stereotype in this time of the world that makes Huck and Jim different from everyone else that they are supposed to be like. Jim is supposed to be a slave, and Huck is supposed to have 2 parents and be literate. This we week we got the opportunity to go to the media center and read, which i liked better because i got to listen to the audio logs which help me understand what is happening in the book. This week we continued to talk about how people get alienated and isolated from others, in society. We began to read huckleberry finn. I am learning that huck and jim are together now, seeing as they are alienated from the rest of the town. They figured if they just went on together they could help each other out. I am learning how people talked back in the day in the south. I always thought they talked bad but its actually worse than i thought. They completely disregard black people as a person.Making the blacks segregated from everyone else. This week our main idea was about Alienation, Isolation, and Coping. Now you may think that these are all the same thing but after i looked up on how they differentiate. I realized that they are very much something different. We talked about how huckleberry finn was a controversial book. Whether or not it should use the N word. I believe it should use the n word. The author used that word trying to show how people had talked back then and how it wasn't a good way that they should be speaking. We still isolate and alienate people in today's society. We shouldn't do this but yet we still somehow find a way to make it a part of our lives. One of the main ideas from this week was learning how to trust someone. Especially when abnormal things are happening or when people are looking for something or someone to blame. People need to be aware of all the possible outcomes and not jump to conclusions and begin to become wary of others. People will become obsessed with power and try to control others or not treat them fairly. We learned these things from the Twilight Zone and from the Crucible. If we started treating people with equality and not obsess over some power the world would run a lot more smoother than it does in some places. It took me a little while to get going when we came back from break, but i have managed to get back in the swing of things. We learned that you really should check into things and get some evidence before you believe anything somebody says. We watched the Crucible and also read the book. Over the entire movie i learned that you really can't trust everybody unless if they have some proof of some sort. Everybody believed the girls when they were the ones who were lying. I am still wondering what ended of Abigail Williams. I believe she just ran away knowing she was a liar and would probably be hung for it. She was a fraud who just wanted to live on with John and kill his wife. I understood what we did this week really well. The combination of the movie and book made the movie easier to understand. This week we have been acting a play out about The Crucible and the witchcraft in the town of Salem. I have learned that some people would do anything in order to get rid of somebody they do not want alive. An example would be Abigail doesn't want Goody Proctor to be alive because she wants John Proctor to love her. We were getting the idea of do not accuse someone of something without proof. Everyone in the town has been accusing outsiders since they are not part of the big group so to say. I am wondering who is connected to the devil in the town of salem. I believe it is Abigail because she is acting really good around the minister and stuff but in reality is one of the naughty girls who is fooling around with witch craft. Abigail is causing much hatred for the rest of the town. This week i learned a lot about witchcraft and some of the awful things that happened during that time. Many women were innocent yet were accused of witchcraft and were tortured or even killed because of it. I learned that people can be very stereotypical, even in today's world. People judge people because they are afraid or fear that group of individuals. People feared witches in the past like people fear ISIS and Muslims everyday today. If we see a Muslim now a days we automatically believe they are a part of ISIS. Just like how if there was unusual behavior by a women back in the day they were suspected to be a witch. This is some important stuff to look at today, if we treat every Muslim to be a part of ISIS and choose to discriminate them and torture them that's not fair to the ones who are actually just trying to follow their religion and be a good Muslim. Islam is the second most common religion in the world and only a small chunk of them are bad, yet for some reason we treat all of them as if they are bad. This is mainly because we are very scared of the bad ones so we take extra precaution around them. Yet it isn't fair to the ones who are just trying to live their day to day lives. At the start of the new trimester i have learned multiple things in the first week. I have learned that there are no shortcuts in life. I have learned about the power of an individual. I have learned to become a better writer, by just expressing myself and letting it all out. I have learned to communicate with others if i am in need of help. I would rate my understanding of the ideas so far really high, I find it really easy to learn the way it is taught to us. I gave an idea as to what i thought the Power of the Individual meant. I thought it was about the strength as to which a person can obtain or contains mentally. We read out of the English book about James Edwards this week and learned a little bit about him. We created our own weebly page, and wrote paragraphs about how we felt about reading and writing. |
